Rants 2: What a Load of Crap
The lack of respect people have for each other never ceases to amaze me.

Just last Saturday, some random individual decided to cause trouble at the library. Things started when we noticed an unpleasant smell near one side of the library, but we assumed some child had a dirty diaper.

A short while after that became noticeable, a man approached the desk and informed us that the men's room was rather messy. What came next, I could never have predicted.

Someone had apparently had bathroom problems, they had shit on the toilet and the floor around it. Not only that, but it was smeared all over the floor, and had clearly been stepped in. I was disgusted. Now, I have seen such messes before... at an animal shelter that had an outbreak of Parvovirus. See, when puppies have diarrhea, they still bounce around like normal. Big mess.

Anyway, the mess on the floor had not only been stepped in, but had seemed to have been purposely smeared around the floor and wall. There was no way that it could have traveled that far accidentally. I immediately locked up the bathroom and put up an out of order sign.

Now, seeing as there was still the smell in the area of the library that was not the location of the bathroom, I decided to investigate. Using the assistance of my canine companion, we located dried feces on the ground around the juvenile books. So I cleaned up that mess as best I could, since we couldn't just wait until Monday for the normal cleaning people to handle it. Afterward, I cleaned my hands thoroughly with anti-bacterial soap, and hand disinfectant.

I also had to clean the tile lobby floor a bit where some of the bathroom mess trailed out, to disguise the abnormal disaster. Now why someone would wish to spread their own feces around a library bathroom is beyond me. We provide a free service to them and charge only tiny fines for late books. It makes no sense to me, and was a horrid thing to deal with. Hopefully I won't have to deal with a repeat incident... I'm not sure my stomach could handle it again.

So people, respect others, and don't make unnecessary messes for innocent workers to deal with. Its not their fault you had a shitty day, so don't make their day shitty, especially not literally.
